Diferentes categorias de mundos habitados – Evangelho Segundo Espiritismo.
Do ensino dado pelos Espíritos, resulta que muito diferentes umas das outras são as condições dos mundos, quanto ao grau de adiantamento ou de inferioridade dos seus habitantes.
Entre eles há os em que estes últimos são ainda inferiores aos da Terra, física e moralmente; outros, da mesma categoria que o nosso; e outros que lhe são mais ou menos superiores a todos os respeitos.
Nos mundos inferiores, a existência é toda material, reinam soberanas as paixões, sendo quase nula a vida moral. À medida que esta se desenvolve, diminui a influência da matéria, de tal maneira que, nos mundos mais adiantados, a vida é, por assim dizer, toda espiritual.
Nos mundos intermédios, misturam-se o bem e o mal, predominando um ou outro, segundo o grau de adiantamento da maioria dos que os habitam.
Embora se não possa fazer, dos diversos mundos, uma classificação absoluta, pode-se contudo, em virtude do estado em que se acham e da destinação que trazem, tomando por base os matizes mais salientes, dividi-los, de modo geral, como segue: mundos primitivos, destinados às primeiras encarnações da alma humana; mundos de expiação e provas, onde domina o mal; mundos de regeneração, nos quais as almas que ainda têm o que expiar haurem novas forças, repousando das fadigas da luta; mundos ditosos, onde o bem sobrepuja o mal; mundos celestes ou divinos, habitações de Espíritos depurados, onde exclusivamente reina o bem.

A Terra pertence à categoria dos mundos de expiação e provas, razão por que aí vive o homem a braços com tantas misérias.
Os Espíritos que encarnam em um mundo não se acham a ele presos indefinidamente, nem nele atravessam todas as fases do progresso que lhes cumpre realizar, para atingir a perfeição.
Quando, em um mundo, eles alcançam o grau de adiantamento que esse mundo comporta, passam para outro mais adiantado, e assim por diante, até que cheguem ao estado de puros Espíritos.
São outras tantas estações, em cada uma das quais se lhes deparam elementos de progresso apropriados ao adiantamento que já conquistaram.
É-lhes uma recompensa ascenderem a um mundo de ordem mais elevada, como é um castigo o prolongarem a sua permanência em um mundo desgraçado, ou serem relegados para outro ainda mais infeliz do que aquele a que se veem impedidos de voltar quando se obstinaram no mal.
